Instructions

  1. 1 Pack clean, fresh snow into a large bowl or baking dish. Smooth the top and place in the freezer.
  2. 2 Pour maple syrup into a large saucepan; bring to a boil. Cook and stir with a wooden spoon over medium-low heat until a small amount of syrup dropped into cold water forms a firm ball. A candy thermometer inserted into the syrup should read between 235 and 245 degrees F (112 to 118 degrees C).
  3. 3 Remove snow from the freezer and set on the counter. Pour about 2 tablespoons syrup per piece over snow in thin lines about 5 inches long. Let syrup strips cool and firm up for 3 to 5 seconds. Pull candy strips out of snow, then wind into a lollipop around the end of a wooden pop stick. Eat while still a little warm.

Instructions

  1. 1 Lay about 3 long sheets of heavy-duty aluminum foil out on the grass to make a square about 3x3 feet. Pound the wooden stake into the ground in the center of the aluminum foil.
  2. 2 Fill the lid of the garbage can with a large pile of charcoal, then light. Place the whole turkey (thawed, of course) onto the stake, legs down. Turn the garbage can upside down and place over the turkey. Place piles of lighted coals on the top and around the sides of the can.
  3. 3 Cook for at least 1 1/2 hours or until coals go out. Do not lift the can during cooking. Brush the charcoal off the can and lift off carefully, as some heat may rush out when you do. An instant-read thermometer inserted into the thickest part of the thigh should read at least 180 degrees F (83 degrees C).

Instructions

  1. 1 Bring a large saucepan of water to a boil. Dip apples in water for a few seconds with a slotted spoon to remove any wax from skins; dry with paper towels. Let cool.
  2. 2 Insert sticks through bottom core of each apple.
  3. 3 Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Stir brown sugar, sweetened condensed milk, corn syrup, and butter together in a medium saucepan over medium-high heat.
  4. 4 Bring to a boil, stirring constantly; reduce heat to medium. Cook until a candy thermometer reads 248 degrees F (120 degrees C), stirring constantly to prevent burning, 25 to 30 minutes. A teaspoon of caramel dropped in a glass of cold water should form a firm ball.
  5. 5 Remove from heat; stir in vanilla extract.
  6. 6 Working quickly, dip each apple into caramel to completely coat apple and about 1/2 inch of the handle.
  7. 7 Sprinkle apples with desired toppings while still hot.
  8. 8 Let cool on the prepared baking sheet, about 1 hour. Use caution, caramel is very hot.
