  2. 2 Remove tongue from cooking liquid and set aside until cool enough to handle. Cut through tough outer skin and peel it off. Trim any fat or gristle from base of tongue. Slice tongue crosswise into 1/4 inch thick slices.
  3. 3 Slice loaf of rye bread in half lengthwise. Scoop out a small amount of the soft interior. Spread mustard over each half. Lay onions and tongue slices over bottom half of bread and top with other half and slice into individual sandwiches.

Instructions

  1. 1 Slice knockwurst into long slices.
  2. 2 Melt butter on a large griddle over medium heat. Throw corned beef onto the griddle and get it sizzling. Add knockwurst slices; cook 4 to 5 minutes.
  3. 3 Add bread, making sure it gets a good coat of butter and grease from the griddle. Cook for 1 minute, then flip. Place Swiss cheese on bread slices. Cover with a lid or pot to steam until cheese melts, about 1 minute.
  4. 4 Remove everything from the griddle and assemble sandwich. Place one slice of bread on a plate with the melted cheese facing up. Pile on corned beef, knockwurst slices, and mustard. Top with second slice of bread, cheese facing down. Eat hot.

  2. 2 Remove crusts from the bread slices. On a small cookie sheet, arrange 4 rye slices to form a square. Spread slices with a layer of mustard butter. Top with 4 slices of boiled ham. Top the boiled ham with four slices of white bread arranged in a square. Spread with mustard butter. Top with 4 slices of cooked ham.   1. 1 Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Butter a 2-quart casserole dish.
  2. 2 Place torn rye bread into a food processor and pulse several times to make crumbs; combine rye crumbs with panko crumbs in a bowl and set aside.

  5. 5 Transfer cooked noodles to the prepared casserole dish and pour in the sauce; stir to combine. Sprinkle remaining 1 1/2 cup Swiss cheese in an even layer over the top.
  6. 6 Bake casserole in the preheated oven until bubbling, about 20 minutes. Remove casserole from oven and set the oven to broil.
  7. 7 Stir 3 tablespoons melted butter into the reserved rye and panko crumbs until thoroughly combined and sprinkle top of casserole with rye crumb mixture. Return to oven and broil until the crumbs are golden brown, about 2 more minutes. Watch carefully to prevent burning.
