Instructions

  1. 1 Gather the ingredients. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Grease a cookie sheet.
  2. 2 Combine sugar, eggs, oil, and molasses in a large bowl. Combine all-purpose flour, whole wheat flour, ground ginger, baking powder, ground cinnamon, ground cloves, and ground nutmeg in a separate bowl; stir into sugar mixture until a stiff dough forms.
  3. 3 Divide dough in half; shape each into a roll the length of the cookie sheet. Place rolls on the prepared cookie sheet; pat down to flatten dough until ½-inch thick.
  4. 4 Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes. Set aside to cool.
  5. 5 When cool enough to touch, cut into ½-inch thick diagonal slices.
  6. 6 Place sliced biscotti on the cookie sheet; bake until toasted and crispy, 5 to 7 minutes on each side.

  1. 1 In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast in 1 cup of lukewarm water. Let stand until foamy, about 10 minutes.
  2. 2 In a large bowl, stir together the quart of warm water, salt, ginger, sugar, fennel, molasses, and melted butter. Mix in the yeast slurry and rye flour, breaking up any lumps of flour with a whisk. Stir in raisins. Work in the bread flour 1/2 cup at a time, until the dough becomes stiff.
  3. 3 Then, turn it out onto a floured surface and knead in as much of the remaining flour as necessary to make a stiff but workable dough. Knead for an additional 10 minutes to develop the gluten. Place dough into a greased bowl, and turn to coat. Cover and let rise until double, about 1 hour. Punch down the dough and let it rise again until double.
  4. 4 Remove dough from bowl, and divide into 4 equal pieces. press out air bubbles, and roll dough into loaves. Place the loaves into four 8x4 inch well greased loaf pans. Let rise in a warm place until doubled in size.
  5. 5 Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Bake the loaves for 40 to 45 minutes, or until the tops are nicely browned, and the loaves sound hollow when tapped on the bottom.

  1. 1 Preheat pizzelle baker according to manufacturer's instructions.

  1. 1 Melt 2 tablespoons butter in a large pot over medium heat. Add mushrooms, onion, and garlic; increase heat to medium-high. Cook and stir until mushrooms are golden brown, 3 to 5 minutes.

  4. 4 Heat olive oil with remaining 1 tablespoon butter in a large skillet over medium heat; cook chicken until golden brown, no longer pink in the center, and the juices run clear, 3 to 5 minutes per side. An instant-read thermometer inserted into centers should read at least 165 degrees F (74 degrees C). Divide breasts among 4 plates.
  5. 5 Drizzle Marsala sauce over chicken breasts; garnish with green onion.

  1. 1 Lightly grease a baking sheet. Bring the sugar, molasses, water, and vinegar to a boil in a saucepan over medium heat. Cook and stir until the sugar has reached the hard ball stage, 250 to 265 degrees F (121 to 129 degrees C), or until a small amount of syrup dropped into cold water forms a rigid ball.
  2. 2 Remove from the heat, and stir in the butter and baking soda. Pour the mixture onto the prepared baking sheet, and allow to cool until cool enough to handle, 10 to 15 minutes.
  3. 3 Once cool enough to handle, fold the taffy in half, then pull to double its original length. Continue folding and pulling until the taffy has turned golden brown, and is too stiff to pull anymore. Cut the taffy into bite sized pieces, and wrap in waxed paper. Store in an airtight container.

Pour the syrup into a bowl, add the butter, and beat with an electric mixer until the mixture begins to thicken, then set aside and allow to cool.
  5. 5 Once the frosting and cake are both cool, spread the icing on the cake and serve.
