  1. 1 Sift together the sugar, flour, baking powder, and cloves. Make a well in the sugar mixture, and pour the eggs into the well. Work the eggs into the mixture, first with a fork, then with your hands, until you have a smooth dough.
  2. 2 Line a baking sheet with foil. Roll dough into 1 inch balls and place on the prepared baking sheet, 2 inches apart. Flatten each cookie with the bottom of a glass. Cover with a clean dish towel and let rest overnight. Cookies will spread.
  3. 3 Preheat an oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  4. 4 Bake in the preheated oven until golden, about 15 minutes. Remove cookies from pan immediately as they come out of the oven or they will stick. Cool completely on a wire rack.

  1. 1 Sift flour and baking powder together in a small bowl.
  2. 2 Beat the eggs in a large bowl with an electric mixer on medium speed, adding sugar gradually until mixture thickens. Beat in melted butter gradually until well-blended. Stir in orange extract, triple sec, yellow food coloring, and red food coloring. Carefully stir in sifted flour and baking powder until batter is stiff and smooth. Fold in grated orange zest.
  3. 3 Grease and preheat pizzelle baker according to manufacturer's instructions.
  4. 4 Use a small ice cream scoop or tablespoon cookie scoop to drop batter onto the preheated pizzelle baker. Bake until browned, 30 to 40 seconds. Transfer to a cooling rack to cool completely.

Instructions

  1. 1 Beat sugar and eggs in a large bowl with an electric mixer until smooth. Mix in walnuts, oil, anisette liqueur, brandy, and anise seeds. Fold in flour and baking powder until dough comes together. Cover with plastic wrap and chill, about 3 hours.
  2. 2 Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Grease 2 baking sheets.
  3. 3 Remove dough from refrigerator. Use greased hands to shape half the dough into a 1 1/2-inch-wide log on a baking sheet. Repeat with remaining dough on second baking sheet.
  4. 4 Bake in the preheated oven, switching baking sheets halfway through, until dough is pale golden and a toothpick inserted in the centers comes out clean, 17 to 20 minutes. Remove from oven and cool until easily handled, about 5 minutes.
  5. 5 Transfer logs to a cutting board and slice into 1-inch pieces at a 45-degree angle using a sharp or serrated knife. Arrange slices on their sides on the baking sheets.
  6. 6 Bake again in the preheated oven, flipping slices over halfway through, until lightly browned, about 14 minutes.
