  1. 1 Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F (205 degrees C). Grease a baking sheet.
  2. 2 Combine flour, baking powder, and salt in a bowl. Cut shortening or cold butter in with 2 knives or a pastry blender until mixture resembles fine crumbs. Stir in milk with a fork to make a soft dough.
  3. 3 Turn dough onto a lightly floured surface; knead 8 to 10 times until smooth. Roll out to 1/2-inch thickness. Cut into rounds with a floured biscuit cutter. Place on the baking sheet, brush top of biscuits with milk and allow to rest for a few minutes.
  4. 4 Bake biscuits in the preheated oven until golden on top, 12 to 15 minutes. Serve warm.

  1. 1 In a saucepan, heat together milk, sugar, shortening, and salt until warm.
  2. 2 Combine 2 cups of the flour and the yeast in a large mixing bowl. Stir in warm milk mixture. Add 3 eggs; beat with an electric mixer at low speed for 1/2 min, scraping sides of bowl constantly. Beat for 3 minutes at high speed. Stir in as much of remaining flour as you can. Turn out onto a lightly floured surface. Knead in remaining flour to make a stiff dough, and continue kneading for 6 to 8 minutes. Place dough in a lightly greased bowl, and turn once to grease surface. Cover, and let rise in a warm place until doubled.
  3. 3 Meanwhile, pour boiling water over poppy seeds; let stand 30 minutes. Drain thoroughly, and place in a blender. Grind. In a small bowl, blend together ground poppy seeds, chopped nuts, honey, and lemon zest. Beat 1 egg white until stiff, and fold into poppy seed mixture.
  4. 4 Punch down dough, and divide in half. Cover, and let rest for 10 minutes. On a lightly floured surface, roll half of the dough into 24 x 8 inch rectangle. Spread with half the poppy seed mixture. Roll up jelly roll style, starting with the narrow edge. Seal the edge. Place seam side down, in a greased 8 x 4 inch loaf pan. Repeat with the other half of the dough. Cover. Let rise for 30 to 45 minutes, or until doubled.

Instructions

  1. 1 Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Lightly grease and flour 8x4 inch loaf pan.
  2. 2 Whisk together flour, sugar, and baking powder in a mixing bowl. With a pastry blender, cut in the shortening until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, and cinnamon in a large bowl. Add the banana, and mix well. Fold the flour mixture into the banana mixture until combined. Pour batter into prepared pan.
  3. 3 Prepare the crumb topping by combining the flour, brown sugar, oats, and cinnamon in a mixing bowl. Cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Spoon the crumb mixture over the batter.
  4. 4 Bake in preheated oven for 20 minutes. Reduce heat to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C), and bake until a toothpick inserted in center of the loaf comes out clean, 10 to 15 minutes longer. Cool in pan 10 minutes before turning out onto a wire rack.

Instructions

  1. 1 In a small bowl, soak cranberries in hot water. In a separate bowl, dissolve the yeast, honey and molasses in 1 cup warm water. Let stand until creamy, about ten minutes. Drain and chop the cranberries, reserving the liquid; set aside.
  2. 2 In a large bowl, combine the reserved water, oats, eggs, salt , shortening and 2 cups of flour. Mix until well blended. Then stir in the yeast mixture. Add the remaining flour, 1/2 cup at a time, stirring well after each addition. When the dough has started to pull together, add the cranberries and the sunflower seeds.
  3. 3 When the dough has pulled together, turn it out onto a lightly floured surface and knead until smooth and elastic, about 8 minutes. Lightly oil a large bowl, place the dough in the bowl and turn to coat with oil. Cover with a damp cloth and let rise in a warm place until doubled in volume, about 45 minutes.
  4. 4 Grease two 9x5 inch loaf pans. Deflate the dough and turn it out onto a lightly floured surface. Divide the dough into two equal pieces and form into loaves. Place the loaves into the prepared pans. (The dough can also be formed into longer loaves and placed on lightly greased baking sheets.) Cover with a damp cloth and let rise until doubled in volume, about 40 minutes. Meanwhile, preheat oven to 450 degrees F (230 degrees C).
  5. 5 Bake for 10 minutes in the preheated oven, then decrease heat to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C) and continue to bake for another 30 minutes. Turn out of pans a few minutes after removing from oven. You can brush all sides with a little butter or margarine, if desired. Don't cut this bread too quickly, it tastes best slightly warm or at room temperature.

Instructions

  1. 1 Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. 2 Toast pecans in the preheated oven until fragrant, about 5 minutes. Let cool for 5 minutes. Chop coarsely.
  3. 3 Combine brown sugar, butter, and shortening in a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment; beat until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs one at a time. Beat in vanilla extract.
  4. 4 Sift gluten-free flour, 1 packet plus 2 teaspoons gelatin, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and ginger together in a bowl. Mix into the brown sugar mixture on low speed. Mix pecans, oats, and raisins into the dough.
  5. 5 Wrap dough in plastic wrap and chill in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour.
  6. 6 Drop spoonfuls of dough 2 inches apart onto the prepared baking sheets.
  7. 7 Bake in the the preheated oven until edges are golden, about 13 minutes. Cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes before removing to a wire rack to cool completely.
