  1. 1 Blanch broccoli and cauliflower in a large pot of boiling water until just barely tender. Drain and rise with cold water.
  2. 2 In a large bowl combine broccoli, cauliflower, mushrooms, pepper, celery and onion.
  3. 3 In a medium bowl, combine the vinegar, poppy seeds, sugar, mustard, salt and vegetable oil. Mix until well blended.
  4. 4 Pour the marinade over the vegetables and mix well. Chill overnight before serving. Keep any extras refrigerated.

  2. 2 Cook and stir bacon in a large skillet over medium-high heat until some fat rendered, 2 to 3 minutes. Stir in onion; cook until bacon crisp and onion tender, 7 to 10 minutes.
  3. 3 Combine baked beans, ketchup, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, prepared mustard, jalapeño, chili powder, and mustard powder in a large bowl; stir in bacon mixture. Pour into a 9x13-inch baking dish.

Instructions

  1. 1 Soak the dried beans in a large pot of water overnight, then drain. Refill the pot with water, and bring to a boil. Simmer until beans are tender, about 1 hour.
  2. 2 While the beans are cooking, mix together the maple syrup, molasses, brown sugar, ginger, mustard powder, salt, pepper and water. Set aside.
  3. 3 Place onion wedges into the bottom of a 3 quart or larger slow cooker. Place salt pork cubes over the onion. Drain the beans, and transfer to the slow cooker. Pour the maple syrup mixture over the beans. If there is not enough liquid to cover the beans, add a little more hot water.
  4. 4 Cover, and cook on the Low setting for 10 to 12 hours, or cook on High for 5 to 6 hours. If cooking the beans on High, you will want to check occasionally in case they need a little bit more water. If the beans are too juicy for your liking, leave the lid off for the last 30 minutes to steam off some of the liquid.

  1. 1 Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add onion and bacon, and cook until onions are tender and golden, about 5 minutes. Add garlic, thyme, and red pepper flakes to the skillet, and cook for 1 minute to blend flavors.
  2. 2 Place soaked beans in a 3 1/2-quart or larger slow cooker. Stir in the onion and bacon mixture, maple syrup, tomato puree, Worcestershire sauce, and mustard powder. Bury the ham bone in the beans, and fill the slow cooker with enough hot water to cover the beans. Add bay leaf to the top.
  3. 3 Cover and cook for 5 hours on High, or 10 to 11 hours on Low. Remove bay leaf and season with vinegar, hot sauce, salt, and pepper before serving.

  1. 1 Dissolve the salt in the water, and add the cucumber, onions and cauliflower. Cover and leave for 24 hours. Drain the vegetables.
  2. 2 In a large pan, blend the sugar, mustard and ginger with 5 cups of vinegar. Stir in salt and vegetable mixture, bring to the boil, and simmer for 20 minutes.
  3. 3 Blend the flour and turmeric with the remaining 1 cup of vinegar and stir into the cooked vegetables. Bring to the boil and cook for 1 to 2 minutes. Pour into sterilized canning jars.
  4. 4 In a large stock pot, pour water half way to top with boiling water. Using a holder, carefully lower jars into pot. Leave a 2-inch space between jars. Add more boiling water to cover them, about 2 inches above the tops. Bring to a boil and cover, processing for 15 minutes. Remove jars from pot. Put jars on a wood or cloth surface, several inches apart and allow to cool. Jars will be sealed.

  1. 1 Place potatoes into a large pot and cover with salted water; bring to a boil. Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer until tender, about 20 minutes. Drain and let cool.

Pour a little of the vinegar dressing over the layer. Repeat layer with remaining 3 potatoes, bacon, celery, parsley, salt, and black pepper; pour remaining dressing over the salad. Cover and let stand at room temperature for 30 minutes before serving.

  1. 1 Pour 1 tablespoon oil into a deep pan and heat over medium heat. Add leeks and saute until tender and fragrant, about 5 minutes. Add thyme and garlic; saute for another 30 seconds. Transfer to a mixing bowl and place in the refrigerator until cooled to room temperature, 20 to 30 minutes.
  2. 2 Remove from the refrigerator and add 1/2 of the bread crumbs, 1/2 of the flour, the Cheddar cheese, Havarti cheese, 1/3 cup milk, 1 egg, and mustard powder. Mix until a dough forms. Move to the refrigerator until cooled and congealed, about 30 minutes.
  3. 3 Whisk the remaining egg and 1 teaspoon milk together in a bowl. Add remaining flour to another bowl. Place remaining bread crumbs in a third bowl.
  4. 4 Roll a handful of the leek mixture into the shape of a sausage. Roll in the flour, coat in the egg wash, then dredge it in the bread crumbs. Repeat to form remaining "sausage" links.
  5. 5 Heat 1/2 to 3/4 inch of oil in the same pan over medium-high heat to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  6. 6 Fry each link in the hot oil until the outsides are crispy and golden brown, about 2 minutes per side, working in batches if needed. Transfer to a paper towel-lined sheet to drain grease.
